Electrified Arena: Display Updates and Private Rooms Coming Soon

Share:

Something is going on in the Arena. In addition to an electrifying display change, the damage you do per hit now displays inside your opponents circle. Eike also found some clues in the back code and it looks like Private Arenas are on the way!

The first thing you will notice when you arrive to the Arena is a blue electricity stream on top of the lobby and leaderboard. It looks like the Arena Join link bug has also been fixed [1]. There is also a tiny little mafia people icon next to one of the room names (third one down). I've never noticed that before.

The electricity stream also flows over the top of the waiting room. The bounty on the leader feature which was supposed to last until February 29th is still present [1].

The Arena Lady got some new weapons and the glow of blue electricity gives her a new look .

The background image of the Arena has changed from the Desert theme to an electric one. We never did figure out what the Desert background was all about [1], [2].

The bullets are now blue laser beams which look cool but who really does Arenas manually anymore? Electric streams also run across the bottom of the screen

As you hit and bring down the health of your opponents, electric fields will form inside their circle.

If you look closely, you will see a number flash inside as well. According to the back code, this number is the difference in your score before and after the attack. If for example you have 2,000 points and you attack someone and do 100 points worth of damage, your new score will be 2,100 points and you will see a -100 on the player you attacked.

The display may have changed but the normal Arena issues are still in full swing.

The user end of the game doesn’t provide many clues as to what all these changes are for but thankfully we have some back code snoopers who can tell us what is going on. The following was discovered by Eike from Team Spockholm. From this information it looks like we will soon be able to challenge opponents and make private rooms.
  • name wants to take you down this time around. Let your actions speak louder than words!';
    Prove that you\'re the better fighter.';
    You’ve got what it takes to stay undefeated.';
    Think you can beat ' + name + ' for a second time around?';

  • You were so close! Here’s your chance to prove you\'ve got the chops.';
    Prove that you can beat ' + name + ' this time around.';
    It’s time to bring your A-game. First place is up for you to grab.';
    name  thinks you will be defeated again. Make this request backfire!';

  • Come back with a vengeance. Show ‘em what you’re made of.';
    Give ‘em a run for their money this time around.';
    Be the dark horse in the Arena. Make this the deciding match.';
    It’s time to bring out the big guns. Prove you’ve got what it takes this time!';

  • var isPrivate = arenaInfo[4];
To get you all in the mood for an electric Arena, here is an old school song and dance to fit the Space Invaders vibe some claim exists.

  2. "The bullets are now blue laser beams which look cool but who really does Arenas manually anymore?"

    once again you seem to use your own experience to put a blanket statement across everyone in the game that is just not true.
    I fight in arenas manually because I can be more successful then if I used Spartacus which does not work very well and has much delay in it's setup. you can easily see how people fight and use their powerups when you are fighting manually and I see many of them doing just that in almost every arena I play. so there are tons of people fighting manually because they probably also agree that it is to their benefit to do so, or they just don't like automating every aspect of the game which sucks a lot of the fun out of it. my opinion is that if you feel the need to script and bot everything in the game, then you don't really like to play, so why play at all.

    1. Ok so you answered my question. Of course I use my own experience to write. How else would I do it? The scripts are set up to enable players to play manual as well. They shoot much faster and give one an advantage plus the user does not have to load the Arena. All the top players on the leaderboard use scripts to play. If you only do a few a day then you aren't using it to your full advantage. Scripts allow one to play in many more. There aren't even tons of players so your statement is false. The script writers see how many are using their tools and it's the majority of active players. How does one play manually once they have energy and stamina pools that would take hours to burn through? You should be happy they play at all or guess what, you wouldn't have a game to play and would wake up to a compensation package for FarmVille tomorrow. Those are the facts.

    3. As people get more and more stamina (or energy and level more, whatever, I mean total stamina used per day), the time sink was becoming absolutely ridiculous. Zynga knew that, why do you think the arena came to be in the first place? So people could dump stamina very very quickly (and yes they want you to buy powerups to get new achievements and bragging rights etc). But you have to remember there are some people out there that have basically unlimited stamina (serial levelers) and do not want to fight manually in the arena hundreds of times or thousands of times per day or whatever, and they don't want their stamina to go to waste either. The same can be true about even balanced accounts with heavy stamina. Now you can argue all you want about them not adding that much stamina/energy to begin with, but that's a very popular playstyle to get ahead in the long run and even in some cases the short term, especially since a lot of the top players do it and it's a competitive game for them.

      Sure it's fun at first manually and it is true that Spartacus is still quite laggy for a lot of people and manual you will often do better (depending on your stats, if you're totally buff it won't make much difference), but it's basically the same thing as fighting manually vs fighting with scripts except with a higher quantity, which was sorely needed in the game.

      If scripts all somehow disappeared and nobody made new ones just for the sake of argument, this game would be done within a week (not officially I just mean most of the daily players would no longer play, certainly not the top spenders, then the game would officially be over with within a couple of months).

    4. Don't you feel like a pervert when you use scripts for playing a game. Killing all the visual appeal of the game by using scripts. Why do you even play this game just write a script that will run on your browser and satisfy you.

    5. I would feel more like a pervert trolling a blog site about mafia wars scripts. I guess it's all so we can find little anonymous trolls like you and show them the power of scripts. Since you haven't figured them out your only recourse to try to put those who use them down. Too bad it doesn't nothing for you.

  5. Private arenas! Now with your minis you can finally get that 1000 1st place victories achievement. Or join an arena club where you each take turns getting first place.

  6. I myself am learning how to use scripts and came to the arena out of frustration with the fight list. It's gotten so bad, I had 40 ices but 50 stolen...I love the Arena but somehow feel like the fight list is this way for a reason and zynga knows why and their in know hurry to fix it.

  7. If you are lucky to have an i5 quad-core, with 16 megs of ram, yea manually on the areana will rock. Generally people run typically what ever they can, single core with 1meg ram.

    They figured how to code mmo. remember what a disaster when Vegas came out, wow what a joke and resource hog, couldn't get to the bank.

    You have to admit, arena looks nice. strip the gui and go text base and fly. or Augment a mouse with a 555 chip 2 resisters 1 cap, and have your mouse button rapid fire.
