Mafia Wars: Is The End Near?

Share:

Players can’t help but notice that many of the most powerful accounts in Mafia Wars have decided to quit. The timing is rather suspicious and the main question on existing players minds is “Do they know something we don’t?”.  The Mafia Tornado player rank list now looks like a who’s who of deactivated accounts [1]. Zynga needs to reassure their current players that there are no plans for a shut down in the near future. Without that, rumors will fly and many may decide to stop spending or even quit.

  1. well since i never put any money into the game...i think i can figure out something else to kill time doing, and high accounts probably just got bored and quit...but there will be a time it will stop and i will be laughing at all the suckers that put money into the game ;)

    1. ever think these suckers have money to spend and maybe unlike urself they dont get a wellfare check every month

    2. Ever dawn on you that its us "Suckers" that keep the game going..

  2. Since Zynga cut their staff, would it be correct in assuming that some of those accounts were inhouse?

  3. lol, gee I wonder how these rumors get started, maybe from people posting suspicious articles on a blog?

    1. It is suspicious and this is what people are talking about right now. I would rather post about the fact that the top players quit and the results of their departure rather then wait until a false rumor starts spreading through the news feeds. There are no facts at this time and until Zynga addresses it there won't be.

    2. lol yeah, this blog is full of posts talking about mafia wars ending soon. It has become SO annoying and repetitious! One can't play a game forever, no game lasts forever. I don't get what's so "suspicious" lol And gosh, I simply don't care if the game ends, it's just a game lol! I'll play it while it's there or until I get bored, we can always find so many other things to spend time (even other games) lol Wish this blog would stop with this kind of post... If there are no news to post, simply don't post anything :)

    3. Stop coming here then, seems like an easy choice but for some reasons the ones who like to troll and try to tell me what to do just can't stay away. Did I ever say in the post that I cared? Honestly the best thing for me would be for the game to shut down. Blogging about it is an addiction and is not something I can say I enjoy much but won't stop till the game ends. It's very suspicious that the players who spend the most money are quitting at the same time. I wish the annoying people like you would quit. Most likely you are one that doesn't spend money and uses this site for advice to get ahead then you need to complain. Good riddance to you!

  5. Oh come on. Do you really expect Zynga to ever say anything other than that everything is wonderful and everybody should continue to spend money because Mafia Wars will be around forever? They'll be saying that right up until the day they announce it's shutting down.

And are you really not ready to move on yet? I'd wager that the vast majority of players are wanting to quit. Zynga would be doing us a favor if they shut this thing down.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Zynga would tell you 'of course we have no plans to shut down mafia wars', until the day the tell you that mafia wars will end.

The game has gotten to a point of boredom. The fun and originality that existed 3 or 4 years ago has been replaced by 'copy and paste' missions/properties/secret districts/etc/etc/etc.

Those things have nothing to do with what the game once was NOR ever will be again.

If someone can spend the kind of money those top players did - and walk away...that speaks volumes for the boredom factor

  7. I would guess its because the game sucks? They killed it in the summer of 2010 when they stopped gifting of top loot. Then made cities with random nonsense. It's a click monkey game with nothing left to do with friends. Outside of Italy operation event, I can't remember last time I joined up with others for some fun.

    1. they stop gifting top loot cuz many sites were selling it for a profit. if u going to start pointing fingers on what killed or changed the game start blaming the ppl that have taken advantage of stuff

      Delete
    2. it seems that our friend here has no idea about the game. gifting top loot leads to exploits in the game. stop complaining nonsense!

    3. It appears all of you are lost, they killed this game when they started their "level the playing field" adventure. You know what Im talking about, Lots of top level players out there that once upon a time knew how to really build an account were and are upset because they start giving everything to the low level weak players and giving nothing to the upper levels. At the same time they changed completely the structure of the game. When I started 4 years ago it was based heavier on proper placement of skill points to arrive at your strength, for example Old timers will understand when I speak of the multiplier as a tie breaker. They change that was made was that weapons became the controller and placement of skill points irrelevant pretty much, My personal multiplier was 5.2 x my level, When they effected the change they also stopped letting weapons drop to those like myself with a 5x multiplier. The high levels and old school are upset by this change 2, 3, 4 years of hard work negated by zyngas stupidity.

  8. People just get bored or tired of spending money.

  9. Personally I wouldn't have thought anything for now, I just don't like having to go to the arena and they are pushing us to do so with the missions. It is good for rewards, but I would rather it weren't a part of the game. I'm also thinking it's possible I may quit when I finish London. Perhaps for some of the other players you mention, it could be the reason for them as well.

  10. I stopped spending over a year ago, feelsgoodbro :)

Game isnt fun anymore anyways ever since people became strong using glitches

    2. I quit because no matter how high you get there are people giving Zynga money so they can beat up a fake person. With times being tough save your money this game isnt worth giving them a dime to play.

      Delete
  11. I do not know the details and stats of all of Zynga's games, but I am willing to bet that it has made them the most money out of all their games. Yes it has dropped substantially over what it once was, some of that related to things which they decide to do and try to incorporate into the game, but it still brings them in money. I highly doubt they are close to shutting it down

    ReplyDelete
  12. This was a great game once upon a time, but now it's full of bugs errors and problems. And they don't seem to ever get fixed. It's become a beta test, nothing more. Like wars, every time I enter a war and attack the spinning bullets appear and the game locks up. I know they can fix it, they just choose to use their resources within the game spamming deals to make themselves money. And I have no problem with them making money, but at least make the features work right. VIP really separated the pack and made lots quit. The arena has also turned off many players. And the errors still continue. Many days it is unplayable due to the lag, much of which is created by all the bots fighting during ice seasons. I played back on Myspace and that got screwed up when they added Bangkok, and it was kept unplayable for 1 whole year before the contract expired and they could leave Myspace. It's happening here as well. When they stop fixing game features, it is over. Are they so busy that they can't fix the wars problem? No, they have decided to not be bothered. I have all but given up as well. I hardly play at all and I was a hardcore player. If I got service at a store like this I would never return. Same with this, they let it fall apart.

  13. I play to have fun, I don't care what missions or copy and paste event we have to endure, I ignore the propertys build. I have enjoyed growing my player and it's about the interaction with other players and doing drive by's and wars. chat's between players. the game is really about us and the banter. if you just play to complain about Zynga then quit...

    ReplyDelete
  14. LOL, just quit playing today due to too many jerks in the game. I truly hope Zynga shuts Mafia Wars down - then what will all those jerks who "demand respect" in an imaginary game do?

  15. I played for 3 years, daily nonstop
    I invested in the game
I quit 2 weeks ago, no way i'm playing again
I broke a very bad habit that just became a daily chore like clockwork

I am finding myself doing more productive things with my time now

  16. After reading this thing, I've come to the conclusion that it should shut down.

  17. Many hate to hear this but 95%, if not more, of the very large accounts were Zynga created and the people behind them are not real. This will/has been discovered. The very largest accounts in MW, the "characters" behind them and the stories/relationships associated with the same are all fabrications/zynga creations. The very large accounts, including many of the very large ones that have recently left the game and/or were disabled for one reason or another were purely in house creations creatted for revenue purposes.

    1. yep. The fact that these accounts quit at same time certain employees left Zynga should serve to prove this.

    2. This is a real dozy of a conspiracy theory that is totally wrong. People are bailing on the game while they can still get liquidity out of there investment, even pennies on the dollar. Zynga's stock price, the closings at Zynga locations, the employee cut backs, the fact MWs has less than 700K users of which half are "mini's" used to "kami" and level mains, and the relationship breakup on March 31 2013 from what it has been to the unknown between facebook and Zynga announced on Nov 29 2012 is why people are selling their accounts. These are the fact I used in deciding to sell mine and if I am wrong OH well because if I am right I got something before it was worth nothing "Sobrino"

  18. For me, the game is--(I don't want to say an excuse, but I can't think of another better word)-- to come together each day and touch base. Who wants to talk about our boring, frustrating, busy lives, but if we can share tidbits while we project all of that frustration and boredom out onto a game that just doesn't ever seem to work right, and make each other feel a little better by helping someone else make their game, and their day, a little brighter, than so be it. I met my very best friend in the world through this game, and so many other wonderful (and on the flip side, truly horrible) people that I never, ever expected to meet and don't know if I would have any other way. It was more fun, more exciting and more vibrant when there were more people playing, but even now there's a pleasant hum to the rhythm of play. One of the great things is that you can play, not play, play hard, play 24/7 or check in once a week, and really, it doesn't matter. You can take a week or a month or a year off and still come back and it'll be recognizable and familiar. It's home for me in a way that my life sometimes isn't. I hope they don't shut it down, but honestly, after years and years, I can understand why high-level, hard core players can't do it any more. It has drawn in many of us in a way that we never could have imagined when we started playing it. It's a game. It's a weird, quirky, repetitive, doesn't work right all the time, frustrating, cathartic, emotional experience. It's also healing. I've learned a lot from this game, and I will leave it, when it ends, a better person than I started. Thank you Jennifer Patterson, for all the work you do and have done keeping us reg'lar folk informed. I feel like I know you, through the blog and the Informant Podcast, even though I've never met you, and I appreciate you, I really do.

  19. Yes, the VIP program was about the end of it. It started when they would reply to a problem with a canned response before even reading the inquiry. Contacted them 3 weeks ago about an issue. After 3 replies, still got a canned response. They asked for a SS first reply even though it did not apply to the situation. I sent a SS and was replied a maintenance issue and it was updated. Please check account, it was a new issue and fixed. LOL

Had even mentioned in original inquiry it had been ongoing for 3 months. Checked of course and still there. Sent 3rd reply and received a canned response that they knew of the problem and was working on a solution. 2nd and 3rd inquiry I had mentioned no more canned responses and please escalate. Noticed chat not working with VIP accounts even.

When going to support, MW is not even in main group for inquiries.

Response time stated 48 hours, IT TOOK A WEEK BASICALLY TO GET A CANNED RESPONSE EACH TIME.

    See Ya.

  20. I wonder if its possible all these top accounts were shut down due to abuse. Just seems even more strange they won't even try to sell them as maybe they can't. My one account is worth about $1k so theirs must be worth thousands.

  21. I think most people have too much invested in the game by now (time or money or both) to just quit. I would assume that most of those "top players" were, in fact, Zynga employee accounts. I've known for quite some time that they challenge the spenders with bigger accounts in order to get them to buy more points (not real REWARDING). The game has little left in the way of gratification or satisfaction as it is full of whiners/complainers, but I'm sure it will go on for as long as people continue to buy from Zynga, so don't anybody panic just yet, the world didn't end 12/20/12 and mafia wars won't end just because some Zynga execs left and deactivated their big accounts <-- my 2 cents.

  22. think this sort of blog post makes a lot of frustation to the peeps so some left the game. i don´t think that you want this, coz you get money from many playing and clicking on your banner here.
i would overthink to post such blogs in the future again if i where you :) just my 2cents....

and no i´m not a hater... i think you make a realy good work here...

  23. I play for the people...not for the game...Made some great friends over the years...It has broadened my horizons..learning bout time zones, and different countries..loved the mocks during the days when we had more time to do them...Loved chatting it up with the "enemies" on the war pages..Thanks Jen for all you do...I will leave when they shut the game down...I just live with all of the quirks and errors..We all know there is no customer support anymore...And no...I don't spend money...just cause I choose not too...not cause I don't have it...It was great back in the day, but the one thing that makes it unique, is the friends you make and need to play the game..

  24. I would think that with the revenue stream, as well as the fact that they are working on a new city to release, that the end in not as near as most think. From a purely business sense it doesn't pass the BS filter. The base may have shrunk, but the paying base is still mostly alive and well as proven by the repetitive 2x builds, starter packs and other misc. boost releases. You don't spend resources releasing these items if they don't make you money. Just my humble business opinion.

  25. I've been playing M/W for almost 5 years, now. I remember when New York was the only city! I have never actually purchased anything, nor have I consistently used any "add-ons" to speed up play - the game is a time waster for me and does a good job of that. I cannot get too serious about something that for me is essentially free. If you don't like an aspect or a change there are so many other games to play and spending one ounce of brain power complaining about Mafia Wars means you have allowed the game to rise above what it really is - adult bubble-gum for the mind.

    ReplyDelete
  26. We must remember that Mafia Wars is only a game! And for many of us, it is FREE. I have been playing almost 5 years, now (since May 2008) and the changes have been amazing and in some ways frustrating - only if you take it too seriously. It is really just bubble-gum for the mind. The graphics and the features are what make it fun! Relax...............

  27. I don't see an issue here. If you enjoy playing, play. If you don't enjoy playing, leave. Simple. And if they shut it down, it gets shut down and we'll all find something else to do. There was life before MW. There will be life after Mafia Wars.

  28. Loot Lady yu have been great for this game but I doubt it will end anytime soon. it still makes money.havent you noticed the banner adds now? as long as it makes any kind of money mw will not go anywhere. The larger accounts were insiders that are no longer there. and some bot users. If youre a bot user why even play the game>no talent in that.

    1. I never said I believed it was going to end. I'm just posing the question that many are asking. Do the money spenders know something we don't? I personally know 3 of the guys who deactivated their accounts and they are not insiders and spent a lot of money. Some of those top accounts are affiliated with Zynga employees but not all of them and not the ones who have deactivated. Something weird is going on. The ones who abused scripts were banned by Zynga.

      Delete
    2. The ones who you cite as disabled on the Tornado list--well Jack 'Swede" left voluntarily. Others are still active facebook accounts, don't know about MW accounts. Either way, who cares? If someone chose to walk away from a game (for whatever reason) it's none of our business. I appreciate the info here, LL, but I don't think MW will be closing as long as they are making money. And no doubt in my mind, especially after the zynga cost cutting measures over the last year, they ARE making money off this game. Sure, it's sometimes boring but really, I come for the friends I made way back when I started to play--that part is still fun and interesting to me. And if we're working together in a war or doing whatever crap zynga throws at us, well, it's something. As for the whiners and complainers, just shut up and go away. We will NOT miss you, I promise!!! LMAO...sorry, that's just how I feel.

      Delete
  29. Funny thing, all these whiners coming in here to blah blah blah about how crappy the game is. If you think it's crap, move along. We won't miss you!
As for shutting down, as long as it's turning a profit, I doubt it. And cutting zynga staff down, closing most of the support site means they ARE making money on this game. If they'd fix the things that are wrong with it, yeah, folks might come back. As to the ones on the Ronado list--who cares if they disabled themselves or got disabled by facebook or zynga? Since no one has any proof either way for most of them, it's moot. And really, none of our business if they chose to deactivate and move on for whatever reason.
As to abuses...well yeah, there were and are abuses. Human nature. Boofrigginghoo...no one MADE any of us play this game in the first place, remember? It was voluntary, just like spending $ is voluntary. :))

  30. You have to think, most top accounts have been playing for years, they simply get bored with playing the game. The turnover has been there since the game started. Old players leave, and new players take their place. Nothing new.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's not suspicious, I just want to know exactly how they are going to deal with the separation of FB and Zynga that is coming real soon here. Why are they not giving any details? Does MW continue, and more importantly does it continue on FB? Or is FB buying MW or coming out with their own MW type game? The thing I hate about both FB and MW is their utter lack of communication to the very people who have made what they are.....and I really don't care if MW shuts down, I'll find something else to do or another game to enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. the constant begging for parts to build properties is one of the big things that killed this game. zynga's piss poor customer service and lack of technical support to fix ongoing issues with certain accounts is another. i fought with support for over 6 months to get features in the game that i was missing even they were available to 99% of all other players 6 months prior and i still never got them. i've also battled with them over a few other problems i was constantly having and i was always "assured" that my issues would need to be sent to a higher level of support but they would be fixed in a timely manner. i am guessing zynga feels that in excess of 6 months is timely?? the biggest kicker was when i lost over 600 rewards points due to zynga's mistake. they admitted it was their fault but would not compensate me for my loss. that is when i left the game for good! zynga is a joke! i told their tech support that their whole company will be going under in due time and i guarantee you all that i am right!

  33. Play if you want to play, don't if you don't. If they shut down, we'll all find something else to do. There was life before Mafia Wars, there will be life after Mafia Wars. I refuse to get all upset over something that may or may not happen. Until such time comes, I am going to enjoy playing the game.

  37. Almost all the features from Mafia Wars were copied from the other mafia games on the Internet.

You should try playing a real mafia: American Mafia. Not a turn based, politics, murders and a lot of random factors. You never know what's gonna happen to you next.

    Look it up.
