Facebook Messes With Zynga’s VIP Membership Program

Share:

If you go to the Marketplace, click on the VIP Tab and click the “Manage Subscriptions” link, you will find some interesting news about how your VIP subscriptions will be billed in the future. We now have to make payments to Facebook and not Zynga. I don’t think Zynga is too happy about this “mandatory Facebook requirement” and hopefully they won’t jack up the price to cover whatever cut Facebook will take. This is a huge inconvenience to paying players because now we have to store our information in our Facebook accounts and everybody knows it’s not secure. I imagine some will refuse. This is another reason that Zynga needs to let us pay for these subscriptions with Game Cards!
Due to a mandatory Facebook requirement, your monthly membership needs to be migrated to Facebook payments. Migrate now and receive a special reward on your next renewal date!

To get started, click on the “Start Subscription Migration” button. You will then need to pay through Facebook. They will give you a “free trial” up until your next renew date. It’s not really free because you already paid Zynga. Facebook will then start taking money from your Credit Card or PayPal account every month.

Clicking on the “buy VIP Membership Plan” confirms the transfer and you will be notified of your next bill date.

Zynga will then thank you for your order. I wonder how much of this money they will get now? I guess they should have talked to Facebook before and not after the program was rolled out.

One thing that is bugging me is there is a image of that Fishing Cat on the initial page asking you to migrate your payments over to Facebook. I assumed it was a loot item to compensate us for this huge and unwanted inconvenience. If you read the fine print, it says “Migrate now and receive a special loot reward on your next renewal date!”. I think we should get it as soon as we hand over our financial information and allow Facebook to take recurring fees from our accounts. This is not something I feel comfortable with but what choice do we have? Zynga needs to do something about this and offer other payment options or they could end up losing more players.

Thanks to Dave Hiner for posting this on the fan page. If you want to keep your VIP Membership subscription, you better start migrating your payments!

  1. The option to pay with reward points would be great. I hope Zynga will consider this now.

    1. That would be pointless, vip gives you 50 reward points a week (over $25 worth a month) So after a month you would basically be getting it for free.

  2. I'll be maxing on this new vip fight loot within 2 days (probably a day as i'm wanting to finish ice season early) and quitting. I always thought the vip service was okay with 50rp/week in return, however recently with more gameplay issues including the ever returning slow fighting it's time to call it on this broken game

  4. most likely they are not giving you the loot until the next renewal date, as an incentive to keep paying Facebook and Zynga... if they gave it to you right away, then you could cancel your subscription after you get the loot.

    1. Unsubscribing will cause you to lose all existing VIP membership benefits and progression.

That's at the bottom and I almost missed that, am I crazy or does that mean when you unsubscribe all the progress you made with the vip program resets back to before you had it?

    2. I understood that to mean that you would lose your seniority.. or progress.. with the program itself. Your benefits supposedly increase with each month of membership, the longer you are a member the better it gets, but if you quit, then sign up again, you have to start all over with your membership status, but you don't lose the stuff you already paid for.

  7. Well my account doesnt say anything about migrating with fb SIGH... just a suggestion...I only use prepaid debit cards when purchasing things via the net for security reasons. So if the option to migrate to fb pops up its no biggie!

  8. Is it Just me as i don't see any of this i had it b4 i refreshed went back and it was gone was it pulled all ready ?

  9. Just checked mine and had no change over screens or messages. My account goes to Silver a day after yours so it might be based on that. Who knows ....could be another one of their "roll outs"...

  10. Looks like it's been pulled or something... Mine does not show it anymore.. I was going to cancel aswell

  11. I did not sigh up for facebook but for Zynga. Zynga should consider to let mafia war members paly on their own servers. FB is just something i've got with Mafia wars. Not the other way around. So i don't see how, i should migrate. I understand that Mark got in deep shit on stockmarket. it seems that he now has to prove to the shareholders, that fb is doing ok. No, Zynga is doing ok. Whe is Mr. Mark facebook, shuffing his problems on my desk?

  12. I don't see it, either. I don't understand why they would need my permission for adjustments in billing. I'm sure FB can get their cut regardless of who has my digits!

  13. It is a completely ridiculous thing to do by Zynga. Consider that a few months back or so, maybe more, Facebooks CEO's account was hacked. So the question that begs to be answered is: HOW SAFE is it to do so? And in actuality, I could care less about FB since the ONLY purpose for to have an FB was to play MW!!!

  14. theres plenty of choice,just don't subscribe,easy enough

  15. this is the reason why zynga is making zynga.com so it doesnt need facebook to run its games

  16. Zynga billing told me if we call and complain they will stop this!

  17. I just talked to Zynga billing dept is enough of us call and complaine it will be stopped!

  18. there are lots of choices involved. i for one have ignored the vip from day one. if i want to spend, then i will. but i will not be tied into an obligation on a game evolving in directions i dont like, declining player base, etc. its not worth it.

so try vip on zynga, port vip to facebook, or none of the above. thats three clear choices.

  19. Facebook gets 30% as per their agreement with all entities on Facebook. Dunno if there was a negotiation.

  20. Throw a high scored loot item and people just go along with it... how much do you value your credit card info??? Enough to get it stolen over a game? Refuse so they dont continue to walk all over our rights , accept and either get lucky and nothing happens or your worst nightmares will come true. ITS TIME TO TAKE A STAND and not be pacified w/ a Fishing Cat!!!

  22. I also have not seen any message about migration to FB. I check my account and it stil shows "Paypal" as my payment method, and "Zynga" is the only party authorized to make the Paypal charge. I wonder if there is a reconsideration by FB on this . . . anybody have updated info?

  23. Wondering if the fact that some players have this notice, others don't has anything to do with the country we as players are in...I am in Sweden and nor myself nor my life partner have the notice...*shrugs*

  24. Nothing on mine either. So they had to have taken it down and changed their minds or something. My renewal date is July 6th, so I will watch and see if anything changes.

    1. I was due to get the Silver Vip benefits today, but because I can't migrate to Facebook (I don't have that migrate-button) my subscription hasn't been renewed today.
Zynga Live Chat acts as if they don't understand the problem, they only give you a 'canned' answer saying they are rolling out the option to migrate to Facebook very slowly :(
Zynga really should get their sh*t together if they want people to pay for this game or even continue playing it!

  25. I will 100% CANCEL. There is no way I'm giving my $$ or financial info to a company with virtually ZERO customer service. Automated emails & FB help centers do NOT count. FB disables its users left & right giving NO solid answer or reason why IF they even feel like auto-replying to its victims. FB takes its users for granted & WILL NOT CARE when you find your CC info stolen after ur FB acct is hacked.... you will spend months trying to get someone at FB to answer ur emails. I can already see the lawsuits & FB wont give 3 shi*s about it. This is a company that has NO business asking a drunk mule for a DIME on the road, let alone trying to take UNEARNED $$$ from Zynga & its users. Ciao ciao VIP ~

  26. I do not have this change yet either

  27. Is there a glitch in the vip program? I am getting vip loot and I am not even signed up.

  28. Nice blog, your blog is really nice.

  29. This worked out well for me. Zynga banned me from spending money, believe it or not, and I couldn't get VIP. I was able to do it thru fb and I use paypal, no CC info given. Maxed new loot in 2 days, a little to easy.

  30. just migrated my account seems the price has gone up

Mafia Wars VIP Membership Plan Price: $28.72 USD/month

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't understand this! For me the price has changed also to $28.72. Yet it is stated "Due to a mandatory Facebook requirement, your monthly membership needs to be migrated to Facebook payments. Migrate now and receive a special reward on your next renewal date! Same Price. Same Benefits. Nothing changes on your VIP Membership Plan". Surely the price should be the same as before $24-97????...

  33. I live overseas and the credit card authorities have had to more than once "put a hold" on my credit card because of either "suspicious transactions" or because it had been compromised. I don't trust Facebook, but I do trust the security on the credit card. It has best excellent and getting a new card took less than a week so I'll take my chances with Facebook. The VIP membership has helped my stats so I'll try it for one more month.

  34. I pay for mine with Paypal so I am ok with it.

  35. Nice card.If we print this card on plastic for VIP members and names them Print VIP Cards it will be amazing look. But that show creativity.
