Disaster Relief Update

Share:
Two days ago, I asked you to respond to a discussion topic on Get Satisfaction regarding the natural disaster that just struck in Southeastern America and killed over 300 people and destroyed the homes of many more (1).
Today, there was an Official Response by Cerulean Master and hopefully we will see something in game soon (1). Shame on those of you who made negative comments about the situation on my blog.

MySpace Hired Guns

Share:
Many players are noticing that all of a sudden they have a butt load of Hired Guns. FionaWG noticed that she had 4,033 and just like the forum title, she initially thought "How in the HELL".
Cerulean Master, Super Moderator, explained that no matter which cross over package you chose for migrating your account over from MySpace, you were given a Hired Gun for each mafia member you had. Too bad Hired Guns are useless to those who already have 501 mafia members and there is no way to get rid of them.

No matter which package you accepted, you should have received 1 hired gun per each mafia member you had on Myspace.

Account Settings Update

Share:
I'm not quite sure when this happened but check your "Settings" inside the Account drop bar located on the upper right corner of your Mafia Wars game.
There is now a Popups option and so far only the Secret Stash is listed.
I opened everything up and there are Secret Stash Robbing, Fighting and Job Popup options. As of now we only get a Secret Stash Jobs Popup. The Secret Stash feature associated with fighting doesn't involve a popup but there will be one soon. For reference, here are the details of the pending Secret Stash feature (1). At least we will have the potential to block the popups this updated feature will cause.
I turned everything off and saved my preferences as I don't want any popups or emails from Mafia Wars.
I immediately went to test it out and the very first job I did yielded me the popup shown below. I'm not even making this up for a dramatic effect. Maybe the setting doesn't apply to the current Secret Stash Job Popup.
I checked my e-mail and still had one from Mafia Wars so hopefully it takes a few days to kick in. If not, then the Account Settings like many things in Mafia Wars are totally useless.
Thanks to [MWL] Ballbusting Bastard for notifying me of this update.

Mafia Wars F-Card

Share:
My friend [MIG|OG] †єχ is always finding cool things on Facebook. Today he found a funny thing by Conan O'Brien called F Cards that you can send to your Facebook friends. To see them all, go to the Conan O'Brien Team CoCo Fan Page. Here is the one about Mafia Wars.

There are all kinds of funny F Cards that apply to all the Facebook situations we deal with on a daily basis. It's worth checking out.
Thanks to Mike Nestor for adding the video to the Informant Podcast YouTube Channel so I could figure out the embed code.

Reward Point Discount Popup Change

Share:
I've noticed lately that when I get a Reward Point discount offer pop-up, the offer disappears in about 15 minutes. Here is the one I got when I first logged on today and they aren't joking when they say "limited time".
I was going to make a purchase but I noticed that taxes were included in the discounted prices.
I live in Las Vegas and it's rare to find a state imposed tax on anything because of the gambling revenue the state brings in. Time are tough so I went to the Customer Support Tax Information Page to see if Nevada changed their tax laws. Nevada is not listed as one of the states to impose a tax on Reward Points.
When I went back to my game, the Reward Point discount offer was no longer valid and the regular prices did not have taxes on them. I have no clue why this happened but feel Zynga was trying to pull a fast one on me.
Misty Dady made a post on the Mistyfied Mafia Wars & Pimping Blog showing that some players are getting a Reward Point discount offer pop-up with fine print. You can see that only one of the three packages offered on the pop-up is actually 30% off.
(original underlying image from Mystified Mafia Wars & Pimping)
If you look at all of the packages, the ones starting at $50.00 have the 30% discount.  Maybe if Zynga didn't shove a discount pop-up down our throats every 10 minutes, players may not wait for discounts to buy Reward Points. It appears that now you have to spend more than you may have planned to even get the discount offered. You also need to do it quickly because it may not be there by the time you find your credit card.

I guess this is what they chose to replace the ridiculous pop-up that some players started seeing on April 2nd (1). At least "up to 30% off" is more accurate than "While supplies last".

Another Secret Stash Scam

Share:
Most players probably ignore the fighting Secret Stash posts because they rarely work and when they do they usually contain crap. Somebody unknowingly picked this feature for the latest scam to hit our news feeds.  Vanda posted the following image on the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page to remind us what to look for. I've probably made at least 10 posts on this blog about the subject but always make sure it say "via Mafia Wars". The new scam doesn't say via anything and there isn't a little Mafia Wars icon. Don't always look at the icon because many fake scam posts have it. I would hope most would notice the "Mafia Wars 1,000 Rewards Point Bonus" in the title. If you didn't, you aren't paying attention. Do you really think Zynga would give us more than 1 or 2 Reward Points for free?
Thanks to Vanda, Paul, Thunder Crew and Yuen for posting about the latest scam on the fan page.

Bad News For Facebook Group Pages

Share:
I'm sure by now you have all experienced the new Group Pages on Facebook. There are no Discussion Boards, the topics don't stay in chronological order as they get bumped whenever someone comments on them and there are no information boxes on the right column of the page. Facebook is changing ALL Group Pages to the new format. This is bad news for the long time Clans and Families of Mafia Wars as they have always used the old Group Pages. There isn't anything you can do to stop this from happening so you will need to learn to adapt or create a Fan Page. Here are Facebook's responses to frequently asked questions about the migration and what you can do to prepare (1).
If you are considering changing your Group Page to a Fan Page, here is a good guide from All Facebook that explains the differences.

501 for 12,525 Reward Points

Share:
I forgot to post about the 2 new Limited Edition Loot items available in the Marketplace. They are Terminator vs Rambo featured items and cost 25 Reward Points each. It looks like the creative loot people got lazy and didn't come up with any clever sayings for these items. All they say is "Terminator vs Rambo". How boring is that?
Back in November, I told you about the drop down tab that was added to buy Marketplace loot in bulk (1). The most items you could buy at once was 25.
Sometime between now and then, a 501 option was added. Now you can buy 501 of the items you want in one click. Check out the Confirmed Match shown above. For just 12,525 Reward Points, you can have the best defensive armor score in the game.
Lets break that down. If you don't use wire transfers to buy Reward Points and they aren't on sale, the best deal is 1,000 Reward Points for $200.
You would have to make this purchase 13 times to have enough Reward Points to purchase 501 of the Good Luck shown above. That comes out to $2,600.00. 25 Reward Points x 501 is exactly 12,525. Zynga can't even offer some type of discount for buying these items in bulk!
Obviously one would wait for discounts or use the wire transfer program but at 40% off this would cost about $1,500. If you want all of your attack and defense categories to include the best loot items, it would cost about $20,000 if you bought Reward Points at the regular price. If you were business savvy and waited for a sale, it would be around $12,000. There must be a demand for this type of purchase or they wouldn't have bothered adding the 501 option to the drop bar. This is kind of a rip off to the players who would utilize it because they wouldn't need exactly 501 of each item. Look at the Harbinger that anybody buying these items in bulk would already own. What makes this set up even worse is that Zynga adds new loot to the Marketplace at a very fast rate. If a player spends $12,000 because he or she wants to have the best of everything, they are probably going to do it again when new loot items come out. Is Zynga taking advantage of these players? They really should offer some type of compensation in the form of a discount or buy back program when the best loot items are replaced with better ones in the Marketplace.

RewardVille Daily Goals

Share:
RewardVille keeps getting busier and busier. Last week they added RewardVille Bingo(1) and now we have RewardVille Daily Goals. I haven't kept up with RewardVille but The Mafia Wars Maniac Blog has done a great job explaining the latest feature. Read RewardVille Daily Goals! and RewardVille Daily Goals Part 2 to get all the details.
I'm afraid to use the zCoins I've earned by playing Mafia Wars because I know the loot will soon be useless.
You can tell RewardVille comes from Zynga. Instead of fixing things, they add more stuff. Here is an error I posted about 2 months ago and it still hasn't been fixed. The stats listed for the HAWK Monocycle on the RewardVille page are different than they are on our Inventory Page (1).
How much stuff can they cram on the RewardVille Home Page? I'm not going to play the other Zynga games unless they can offer something better than a few loot items that I won't use down the road.

Thanks to Ade for the information on RewardVille Daily Goals and to TOKO for spotting the RewardVille loot error.

Have A Spamtastic Weekend!

Share:
I'm really disappointed that so many of us, including many members of the PAC took the time to thank Zynga for allowing us to play the game last weekend on Get Satisfaction. Obviously our praise didn't have any impact as we got slammed like never before this weekend. In addition to playing the game, we are suppose to upgrade both our Armory and Private Zoo, collect gifts for the Terminator vs Rambo Event, work on a new nine part Mission Event, recruit mafia members for Crack The Safe and collect Raw Meat for a Limited Time Buildable item. Lets take a look at all the additional spam you will get this weekend. While you are scrolling, take a listen to a song that always reminds me of Mafia Wars whenever I hear it.

Weekend Spam
Armory Upgrade
Private Zoo Upgrade
Terminator vs Rambo
Thrill of The Hunt Mission Event
Crack The Safe
New Limited Time Item
Regular Spam

Unreleased Spocklet

Share:
As a treat for readers of this blog and the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page, Team Spockholm is letting me post a unreleased bookmarklet. It has yet to be named but will show up soon on the Spockholm Mafia Tools website. I'll call it Crack The Safe for now. If Pistol Pete gets involved with the naming process, it may end up with a fancy name like the Crack-a-Nator or Crack-o-Matic. To check it out, follow the instructions below.

1. Click, drag and drop the bookmarklet below into your bookmark tool bar.

Crack the Safe

2. Unframe your Mafia Wars Game and from any page click on Crack The Safe now located in your bookmark tool bar. Wait a few seconds for it to load.
3.  Review your data. Without all the hassles of checking your Inventory Page, you will be able to see how many times you have cracked the safe, what loot items you received and how many points were added to your attack and defense scores.
I checked it against my inventory and it was 100% accurate.
Thanks to Eike for writing a cool bookmarklet and the rest of Team Spockholm for letting me post it here. Thanks to Mike Nestor for adding the bookmarklet to this post. Once it's on the Spockholm website, please go there to install.
